What to Bring on Your Baby’s First Road Trip

Hi Girls! We’re getting ready to leave for vacation this week and I still have so much to do! My to-do lists have basically doubled since having a baby! This is our first road trip with Ashton so I’ve been very careful to make sure I have everything he might need. Since spring break is coming up, I thought it would be helpful to share what I’m packing for baby’s first road trip.

Unless you’re extremely lucky, chances are your baby won’t sleep the entire trip. With that in mind, it’s important to bring toys to keep them entertained. Ashton is 4 months old so keep your baby’s age in mind when selecting things for your trip.

Right now Ash loves anything soft so these Tinkle Crinkle Activity Ball and Tinkle Crinkle Caterpillar from GUND are perfect. The Tinkle Crinkle Activity Ball makes noise when you roll it which is great for a new baby. Ashton loves when I shake the ball around and let him hold it while he’s in his car seat. The Tinkle Crinkle Caterpillar doubles as a rattle and he likes holding onto this guy when he’s napping. A bonus for all the moms is both toys are machine washable.

Ashton is getting ready to start teething so I make sure to bring something he can chew on in the car. He really likes this Lil’ Squish Jellyfish Sensory Rattle + Teething Toy from Baby Banana. Ash can easily hold it himself and smiles every time it rattles. The jellyfish is made of soft, durable silicone and is the perfect teether to keep him busy while we’re driving.

Another great item to let him hold and cuddle is this cute Snuggle Knit Lovey by aden + anais. He loves the soft material and likes to chew on the star. The lovey is also machine washable.

I like to have comfy clothes for the trip and really like this aden + anais Snuggle Knit Newborn Gift Set. Their new snuggle knit collection includes a knotted gown (the perfect pajamas for the hotel), hat, bandana bib, and swaddle blanket. Each piece is super soft and will keep your baby cozy no matter where you are traveling to.

Diapers and diaper cream are obviously necessary. For diaper rash I like to use Boudreaux’s Butt Paste Maximum Strength formula and always through a spare tube in my diaper bag when traveling. This one is pediatrician recommended and free from dyes and preservatives.

I also make sure to bring Ash’s lotion whenever we are anywhere overnight. This Baby Balm and Baby Lotion from Pipette are lightweight, long-lasting, and gentle for sensitive skin. Pipette’s Baby Balm was featured in the November issue of Good Housekeeping on page 49 and a favorite of many readers.

A few other items I like to have when travelling:

  • Noise Machine
  • Travel Changing Pad
  • Pack n Play
  • Extra Bottles

I hope this post was helpful to anyone getting ready to take their baby on a road trip. I’d love to hear what your favorite items are for traveling with your little one. Let me know below in the comments and thanks so much for reading!
